I figured I would do a post about some of the restaurants we have tried so far since that has also provided some fun experiences.
First up, SUSHIRO! A fun sushi restaurant near base where they have sushi on a conveyor belt. You just grab what you want and pay based on the plate prices that you stack up. You can also special order sushi and they chime your table when it comes out on the belt. The boys haven’t been too fond of the sushi but there were other items there that they seemed to really like…like french fries and fried chicken (which is surprisingly popular here). It was a fun experience!
Another restaurant we’ve tried is a Russian restaurant called Hinotori that is really close to our house and right along the beach. We loved it. Smaller restaurant with only two people working, the chef and the waitress, they were super friendly and helpful. With its neat Russian décor and windows that look out to the water it had a great atmosphere. Seemed to be a really kid friendly restaurant, the waitress let the boys play with the nesting dolls (why would you give a 3 year old vintage nesting dolls?) and they brought out a basket of toys. Their menu was in English and Japanese and the waitress was able to explain things for us. Taylor and I ended up ordering the same thing, a set that came with a salad, beef stew, piroshki, and a seafood and mushroom cocotte. It was delicious and the boys devoured it too.
Also nearby along the beach is an Indian restaurant called Kalika. I really enjoyed their beachy atmosphere and the beautiful walk to get there. They had indoor and outdoor seating so I think it will be fun to go back when it’s warmer and eat outside. Taylor and I had some curry with rice and naan and we got a pizza for the boys. It was pretty good! They had the tv with the news on and apparently up north there was an earthquake with a tsunami warning. At first we didn’t know where it was and the news anchor was making us really nervous with his helmet and nervous sweating…All was well in our area though and we made it home safely.
We’ve come to like Indian food a lot here. There is another restaurant that we would get take out from when we were in the hotel and indoor dining was still prohibited. Now that we are allowed to do indoor dining in our area we decided to go back and do a sit down there. Our favorite Indian food with the best naan bread ever…Gorkha Palace! We got their couples set (peep the rice heart) and shared with the boys. (The “couples” set was easily big enough for all of us…how are the Japanese all so thin?)
We’ve gone to a couple other places as well as a small bakery nearby, but I’ve forgotten to take pictures. I don’t think we’ve had a bad meal yet, everything is so delicious. We look forward to continue trying new places and sharing with you!
