Our first baby is now 5! Jeffrey loves all things lego so we decided to celebrate his birthday at Legoland in Nagoya, Japan!
We left our house on a Friday afternoon (after cake and presents in the morning) to take the 3 hour train ride over to Nagoya. This trip we had our first opportunity to take the shinkansen bullet train! Although it wasn’t quite rush hour, it seemed a little busy at the shinkansen station (probably due to some train delays from some heavy rainfall) so it was a little chaotic trying to figure out how to properly buy our tickets and which train to get on. A train attendant was really helpful and told us which train to get on. We also did not get reserved seats (our kids ride free for this option) so we just boarded the non reserved train car and had to take whatever seats were available. Doing this is a little risky while traveling with kids, when it’s full it is expected to seat your kids on your lap, so we weren’t expecting it to be the most comfortable trip. It was indeed pretty full when we boarded, but a very kind man moved seats for us so we could sit together with the boys on our laps. This leg was only about 1.5 hours so it wasn’t so bad and the boys were really content watching their kindle tablets. It felt like you were in an airplane in the train, but with WAY more leg room.
We arrived to our hotel and got some convenience store dinner. There was a Family Mart (a popular convenience store) on the bottom floor of our hotel so it was extra convenient.
Saturday we ate breakfast at the hotel, which had a nice western style breakfast. The boys were getting excited for Legoland as the hotel had little Lego sets hidden around the lobby.
We took the train down to Legoland and enjoyed the rest of the day there. We were expecting rain all day but thankfully it was really nice out. Just HOT! The park was perfect for our kids ages. Jeffrey was tall enough to do all the rides, even the big dragon roller coaster (which we rode twice). Jonathan couldn’t go on a few of the fast ones but he still could do most of them. Also, even though we went on a weekend, there were barely any waits for any of the rides! I was surprised at how uncrowded it was. Overall it was a really cute park with little themed sections like Briktopia, Lego city, Knights Kingdom, Ninjago, and a Duplo area. It had a combination of small rides and themed playgrounds. There was a “miniland” right in the middle of the park where it had scenery from Japan built out of Legos (my favorite area!). We really enjoyed looking through this area for a while too.
We got combo tickets for their Sea Life area as well. It was basically a small aquarium with some lego themes included.
We ended the day with the boys’ favorite…some curry for dinner. They scarfed it down and had the most amazing juice. Not sure if it was the hot day or if the juice was really that great but they really enjoyed it lol.
Happy Birthday Jeffrey!
