Konnichiwa! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Valentines Day! Finally making our post on the illuminations we saw this year. Japan doesn’t quite celebrate Christmas the same as the US does and the neighborhoods don’t decorate their houses with Christmas lights, but it is popular to have winter illumination events and they have them all over the place.
In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Harry Potter films, there was a Harry Potter winter illumination in the Marunouchi part of Tokyo. I went up to Tokyo one evening with a couple of friends to search for these dispays. There were a few dispays in different spots in this area of the city, it was almost like a scavenger hunt. We started at the huge Harry Potter magic tree and then found Hogwarts Letter tree display. After walking a bit and finding dinner we didn’t have time to find any of the other dispays, but it was so magical and Tokyo in the evening was beautiful.
The next illumination we went to was a big light up Godzilla at Kurihama Flower Park. There were a couple light displays at the entrance of the park and a long walk to the Godzilla slide. We’ve been to this park before and the boys were disappointed because they couldn’t actually slide, but Godzilla was definitely fun to see though!
Our last illumination event was at Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest to see the Sailor Moon Illumination! This is what my 8 year old self’s dreams were made of. It was a small amusement park and we started with some dinner from some food trucks and explored Paddington Town. Then we went up the rainbow chair lift for all the Sailor Moon lights! They also had some random displays that we walked through. It was colder than we expected but it was a fun time.
The boys are such a fun age for holiday celebrations, here are some pictures from our Christmas!
That’s all for now, we are hoping to post some more of our adventures soon!
